Dirndl portrait in progress

Before I start bombarding your with daily paintings for Art Every Day Month, I thought I’d post a look at one of the larger pieces I have in progress. It’s part of a series I’m working on, portraits of women wearing dirndls (traditional Bavarian dresses). I’m hoping to have 10-12 of them finished by the end of the year. My painting schedule is full!

Getting ready for art every day (month)

daily paintings on the wall to dry

It has been a hectic couple months around here, with travel and visitors, and I need to get back into a regular studio habit. Sounds like the perfect time for Art Every Day Month to come along. Throughout November, participants all over the world will be posting their daily creations to their blogs. This will be my fourth year participating, and I’m really looking forward to it. I think my personal goal will be to produce 30 new daily paintings during the month, in addition to working on my larger works-in-progress.

The timing works out doubly well, since I’ll then have a nice new pile of daily paintings to display at my December 4th Open Studio (if you’ll be in Munich then, save the date!). My daily paintings were quite popular at my last Open Studio, so it will be good to have so many of them available this time around.

Printmaking at an Austrian artists’ colony

Kunstlerdorf

At last, I have something other than an Oktoberfest painting to show you! Last week I visited Künstlerdorf Neumarkt an der Raab, an artists’ colony in a quiet part of southeastern Austria. The place itself is absolutely adorable. It consists of a small cluster of historic buildings, several of which have thatched roofs. Inside you’ll find studios, exhibition spaces, and even bedrooms that visitors can rent during their stay. Artists teach a variety of week-long workshops here during the summer months.  » Read the full post

Oktoberfest Munich: Hippodrom painting

Posted by on 10 October 2011 | One comment

Original Oil Painting Hippodrom Oktoberfest, Munich
Inside the Hippodrom, 24 x 30 cm, oil on canvas, ©2011 Julie Galante. [SOLD]

I made the first sale out of my new Etsy shop this week! It’s always so exciting when someone likes one of my paintings so much they want to own it, and I’m happy to have this new avenue for collectors to find their way to my work.

I just posted the above Oktoberfest painting to my shop, too. It’s a slightly larger version of a daily painting I did last year. I’m going to go back to painting things that aren’t Oktoberfest very soon. Really I am. Promise.

Daily Painting: another Oktoberfest study

Daily Painting: Oktoberfest Dirndl study
Dirndl Study #14, 24 x 18 cm, oil on canvas, ©2011 Julie Galante. Available on Etsy.

My one-track mind continues its dirndl obsession. What will I do now that Oktoberfest is over, and the women of Munich have put their regular clothes back on?

October 15th marks the 33rd World Wide Sketch Crawl. People in cities all over the world will get together for a little bit of group sketching. There’s even a small Munich group. Will you be participating in your city?
