A Woman’s Place and what comes next

Way back in August, I had an exhibition called A Woman’s Place. It included around 40 paintings and mixed-media pieces of mine – probably the largest show I’ve ever done. There were several different themes running through the artwork, all having to do with woman and where we belong. At the very personal end, I […]

Stockbridge Kitchen Window

Into September

It’s been a busy week. I brought work home from one show, hung another show, and found out my art has been accepted into a third show. While updating my exhibitions page, I realized that that makes six times I’ll have exhibited my work this year. Very pleased with that number. I’ve also been rejiggering […]

Highland study with lighthouse

Highland landscapes show, and getting organized

Feeling a bit more organized this week. On Monday my new Scottish landscapes went on display at Bistro Provence, a French restaurant in Leith (a neighborhood of Edinburgh). They look good on the walls, and people had lots of nice things to say at the opening, so I’m starting to believe that landscapes and I might […]

Getting ready for market

Next week I’ll be presenting my small paintings and prints at an arts market here in Edinburgh. I haven’t really done much like it before, but I figured it was worth trying out (even though interacting with the public makes my social anxiety flare up). At the very least it will get my art in […]

assisi art residency snow

Assisi residency: winter wonderland

I fell a bit behind on my blogging about my residency in Assisi, didn’t I? In my last post the exhibition had just gone up (the year-end exhibition including work by all the artists who had been on the residency program in 2012). The opening reception was well-attended and a lot of fun. These are […]

the exhibition space

Assisi: sun and setting up the exhibition

I’ve been an artist in residence in at Arte Studio Ginestrelle in Umbria for almost a week now. The sun has come back, allowing for more long walks in the hills. In the studio I’ve been working on some pastel drawings of the city and surrounding landscape. Yesterday we went into the city of Assisi […]

Upcoming exhibition: Little Munich 20 Sept – 12 Oct 2012

I am pleased to announce my next exhibition will be here in Munich during Oktoberfest. Many of my Munich daily paintings will be on display, both oil paintings and mixed-media pieces. If you will be in town, please stop by! I will be there in person for the vernissage (20 Sept), the open house, (29 […]

bar ready for the open studio

Notes on an Open Studio

This past week I hosted my third open studio here in Munich. With this one I was much more relaxed, knowing more or less what to expect from the event: a bunch of people coming over to have a drink, look at my art, and perhaps buy a painting or two. The guests chat with […]

Munich Marienplatz Mixed Media

A look inside Mixed+Media

Munich: Marienplatz, 10 x 15 cm, mixed media on watercolor paper, ©2012 Julie Galante. [SOLD] I had a wonderful time at the opening of my group show Mixed+Media on Tuesday evening. We had a great crowd, very engaged with the artwork. I had a number of encouraging discussions about my work, and even managed to […]

Original Oil Painting: a sunny day at a Munich Biergarten

Dreaming of beer garden weather

Afternoon in the beer garden #1, 40 x 60 cm, oil on canvas, ©2012 Julie Galante. [SOLD] Brrr! It has been extremely cold in Munich this week (-18c/1f most mornings). Maybe that’s why I was inspired to paint some beer garden scenes: I’m missing the days when you could hang out in the sun for […]

fresh pomegranate painting

Day 14: juicy pomegranate

Open pomegranate, 20 x 20 cm, oil on canvas, ©2011 Julie Galante. [SOLD] Pomegranates are one of my favorite fruits, both to eat and to look at. Turns out they’re also fun to paint. If you’ll be in Munich on December 4th, please plan to stop by the Open Studio I will be hosting that […]

Wall of daily paintings after my open studio

I’ll call this one “after”

What fun that was! My Open Studio on Saturday couldn’t have gone better. I’ll have a longer post about the event up in a little bit, but for now I’ll share the wall of daily paintings as it looked right after the crowds left… even with some replacement works on hand there were holes in […]

24 daily paintings displayed together on a wall

The wall of dailies

Things are awfully busy around here as I get ready for my open studio tomorrow. There are paintings everywhere, large and small, and my studio has never been cleaner. In the interest of displaying as many of my little daily paintings as possible, we came up with this wall arrangement. I think they look quite […]

small oil painting of Albi, France

Daily Painting: Albi, France

Albi skyline study, oil on canvas board, 18 x 24 cm. Available on Etsy. I love the skyline of Albi (the hometown of painter Toulouse-Lautrec). Just look at the layers upon layers of buildings as the city climbs up the hill. It’s the kind of interesting space that draws me in and features prominently in […]

AEDM day 23: homage to my houseguest

As of today we have a very handsome visitor in our apartment. He’s so adorable I can’t stop staring at him. He was kind enough to pose for me as I completed today’s AEDM creation, which doesn’t begin to encompass his charm. Today was a very good art day. In addition to a couple cat […]

It’s up!

We put up my show this morning. It was crazy seeing all my paintings somewhere besides in a pile in the corner of my bedroom. I’m very excited and nervous for the opening tomorrow. Wish me luck…
